WBF Swiss Triple Elimination WMB-Format*

WMB-Format*  is a new  tournament system, developed by Dr. Jakob Garal, who has proposed to combine Swiss Triple elimination competition with specific Winner Match Bonuses.
The main idea consist of two simple proposals: 1. each participant can win the tournament, if he/she didn't loose more than two times and
2. each match has special prize for the winner - Winner Match Bonus.
The sum of  WMBs won by a player during the competition has to be represent the real power (or luck) of this player in the tournament.
The first tournaments with such conditions were promoted in Crymea Open, Ukraine (October 2013), 3rd Kharkiv Open, Ukraine (November 2013) and  3rd Russian Open Online (2014).
The general secretary of WBF and tournament director of European Championship Marco Fornasir decided to use this system with the new name
WBF Swiss Triple Elimination WMB-Format*
with some specific options described below.

TOURNAMENT OPERATION, PROCEDURES and SPECIALITIES

1. Tournament execution is presented over internet and by the paper tables on the wall.
2. The first round will be seed manually.
3.  In case of odd number of players one of them receives a bye random.

4. After the round with odd number of players is finished the system will give a bye in the next round to one of the players with the bad performance in the bracket's bottom.

5. When the number of players comes down to an odd number, the system will give a bye to a player in the bracket's bottom (like in Swiss system).

6. A player can not receive a bye one more time if other players don't have the same number of byes.

7. All pairings after the first round are fixed as long as the players didn't play against one another. After that the opponent will be define from the next bottom bracket. Number of wins and losses don't take in the account by this decision. The system doesn't pair the players who have been played like opponents as long as possible (Swiss system).

8. For each win the winner receives Winner Match Bonus, which is equivalent of 10% of entry fee he made to take part in the tournament. Sum of all these WMBs won by the player will be paid him back after the tournament will be finished.

9. In case only three players leave in the competition and all three players have two losses and number of byes for all players are equal, then there are follow options:

           - if two players didn't play like opponents then they have to play;

           - if one player didn't play against another both, then he has to play and his opponent will be draw manually;

           - if all players have played against one another, then the draw will be made manually.

10. In case the winner beat both his opponents from p.9, then there are follow options:

           - second place receives the player with more WMBs;

           -  if the number of WMBs is equal for both players, then the second place receives the player who has won against his opponent during the tournament;

           - if the number of WMBs is equal for both players and the players didn't play like opponents then they have to play one extra match to assign second and third places without WMBs.

11. In case only five players leave in the competition, then there are follow options:

             11.1. if four players have had their byes, then the fifth player should have a bye and pairings will be made according to the p.7;

             11.2. if three players have had their byes, then the bye receives the player who has played more against another three; in case they both have the equal number of matches or no matches played against other, then it will be draw manually;

             11.3. if two players have had their byes, then the bye receives the player who had played against these both; other way it will be draw manually;

             11.4. if one player has had a bye, then the bye receives the player of last four with more matches played in this group; other way it will be draw manually;

             11.5 if all five players have equal number of byes or they have no byes, then the bye receives the player with more matches played in this group, other way it will be draw manually;

12. In case only three players leave in the competition after this round (p.11) then:

            - the money of third place will be share between the last three players, independent of number of WMBs;

            - the cup for third place receives the player with more number of WMBs or it will be decided according to the results between the last three players, that they had made during the tournament.
